A robot cell RoBIN equipped with a bin picking for handling products in bulk by using innovative 3D bin picking techniques

In the framework of the project, we will develop a robot cell RoBIN equipped with a bin picking for handling products in bulk. The final product will be validated and presented in the operational environment of an industrial production process running at the holder of the project, so that the product will be approved in its final form and suitable for use in a real environment.
Picking products in bulk from packaging units and their correct positioning will be made by a robotic arm with an interchangeable gripper and by using innovative 3D bin picking techniques which will be developed on the basis of our own patent solutions and upgraded and optimized within this project.
When doing this, we will develop many new breakthough solutions representing state-of-the-art progress. A remarkable handling time reduction will be achieved by combining the optimized bin picking system, secondary fly-scan mode and an innovative design of the robot cell. The development will aim at reaching a universal system capable of picking and positioning many types of products in bulk (at least 10) of various shapes, which will represent a key competitive advantage of the robot cell RoBIN.
The development of the robot cell RoBIN will take place in four R&D stages. It will consist of RDI activities in the form of industrial research and experimental development performed at technological stages TRL 6 – 9, and other support activities. The project activities will be performed according to the principle of simultaneous engineering. The final product will be validated as a pilot and operational product in the automotive industry, and further on we will, together with our partners, transfer its application also to other lines of business.
The project is co-financed in the amount of 498.348,39 EUR.
